Built for Life in the Middle.

The Normal Brand

Founded in St. Louis in 2015 by brothers Jimmy, Lan, and Conrad Sansone, The Normal Brand began with a straightforward idea: everyday clothing should feel better, last longer, and move naturally through real life. What started in their parents’ basement grew from a search for one versatile shirt into a family-run apparel brand grounded in comfort, durability, and uncomplicated style.

The brand reflects a distinctly Midwestern way of living—somewhere between the city and the country, work and weekends, nights out and days spent outdoors. Rather than creating clothing for only one setting, The Normal Brand designs pieces intended to move between them: straightforward enough for everyday wear, considered enough to feel intentional, and durable enough to become part of someone’s life rather than simply their wardrobe.

Family has remained central to that identity. Inspired by their father and grandfathers, the Sansone brothers built the company around the belief that how someone dresses can reflect respect for themselves and the people around them. That perspective gives The Normal Brand its balance: elevated without becoming showy, comfortable without feeling careless, and familiar without becoming forgettable.

My relationship with The Normal Brand began during the company’s early years, when I joined the team as an intern and had the opportunity to witness a young St. Louis apparel brand beginning to shape its identity. Being present during that formative period gave me an early understanding of the people, values, and everyday lifestyle the company wanted its clothing to represent.

Years later, that relationship continued through two distinct forms of commercial photography. As a brand ambassador, I created lifestyle-driven imagery that placed the clothing within real environments and personal experiences. I also completed a dedicated line-sheet production focused on presenting a collection with the clarity, precision, and consistency required for commercial use.

Together, the work reflects an ongoing connection with the brand—from witnessing its early development to helping represent what it became through both personal storytelling and structured product imagery.

The best everyday clothing does not compete with the life being lived in it—it becomes part of it.

My Contribution

My earliest contribution to The Normal Brand came through my internship during the company’s formative years. Working alongside the team gave me firsthand insight into the process of building a growing apparel brand and helped me understand the balance of comfort, family, versatility, and Midwestern character at the center of its identity.

That early connection later evolved into an opportunity to represent the brand creatively. Through my ambassador work, I interpreted the clothing through my own visual perspective, photographing the pieces as they were genuinely worn and allowing setting, personality, movement, and personal styling to communicate their place within everyday life.

The line-sheet production required a different approach. Its purpose was to present each garment clearly and consistently, creating a cohesive visual reference across the collection. That meant maintaining close attention to lighting, framing, posing, garment presentation, and detail while moving efficiently through the full body of work.

Moving between lifestyle storytelling and structured commercial production allowed me to represent The Normal Brand in two complementary ways: one showing how the clothing feels within everyday life, and the other ensuring that every piece could be accurately understood on its own. Together with my earlier internship, these experiences document a creative relationship that has continued through multiple stages of both the brand’s growth and my own.
